Lydia W. Barry, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Gannon University
Barry works on ancient philosophy, especially the the dialogues of Plato. Her first project interrogates the distinction between philosophy and sophistry in Plato's Protagoras, arguing that the task of distinguishing between the two is ongoing and urgent. She further argues that this distinction is central to the work of philosophy, and crucial for personal and political thriving, especially for citizens of a democracy.
She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Boston College and a BA in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College.
